Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were notified by a man who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.

An important representative commented the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
