An underground market for unapproved slimming drugs is being driven by social media fitness personalities and vendors on communication apps, based on recent findings.

Investigational Drug Gaining Traction Online

Retatrutide, which is still in research studies, is being promoted by social media influencers for its alleged fat-burning effects. Followers are urged to contact these accounts privately for supplier links, while also receiving discount codes.

Active Commerce on Messaging Platforms

Separately, a flourishing market exists on Telegram, where groups with thousands of participants share “before and after” photos, administration instructions and claims of next-day UK delivery. Vendors market the substance there before redirecting customers to WhatsApp for transactions.

Understanding Retatrutide

This medication is an experimental injectable created by American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. The treatment targets three intestinal hormones – glucagon-like peptide-1, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide and glucagon. Preliminary studies indicate it could assist patients lose up to a quarter of their total weight. Referred to as the “triple G”, the drug is being hailed online as the successor to Ozempic.
